By: Muhammad Musa-Gombe.  In recent weeks, I stumbled on a thought-provoking article lamenting the North’s decline, how a region so rich in people and resources could still be weighed down by poor leadership and self-sabotage. It struck me that while Arewa endlessly debates its failures, one man from the South-West has, against many odds, built and sustained a formidable political machine for over two decades. That man is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu’s story as I see it, is not just political history it is a study in structure, loyalty, and resilience. In a Fourth Republic where many political “giants” rose and fell quickly, Tinubu has been the constant, more ...

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw.  We're such slow learners...   God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!   God's Pharmacy... Amazing!   A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.   A Tomato has four chambers and is red. How To Pray Salat-Ul-Istikhara

Source : Fiqh-us-Sunnah, volume 2, number 32 and volume 4, number 141 . Often, we have to make major life-changing decisions: whether to undertake a major project or not, whether to apply for a promotion or not, whether to change career or not, whether to invest in a certain company or not, whether to get married or not, whom to get married to, etc. Istikhara (Arabic) means to ask Allah to guide one to the right thing concerning any affair in one’s life, especially when one has to choose between two permissible alternatives, e.g. a career choice, getting married, etc. Similarly, a traveller should consult good righteous persons before setting out on a journey, because Allah says, “ And consult them (O Prophet) in affairs (of moment ),” (Qur’an, 3: 159) and one of the characteristics of the believers is that “ they (conduct) their affairs by mutual consultation ” (Qur’an, 42: 38). Qatadah said, “Every people who seek the pleasure of Allah and consult with one another are guided to...

“Everyone’s in on the Game”- Corruption and Human Rights Abuse in Nigeria

Countless ordinary Nigerians attempting to make precarious ends meet as taxi drivers, market traders, and shopkeepers are accosted on a daily basis by armed police officers who demand bribes and commit human rights abuses against them as a means of extorting money. Those who fail to pay are frequently threatened with arrest and physical harm. Far too often these threats are carried out. Meanwhile, victims of crime are obliged to pay the police from the moment they enter a police station to file a complaint until the day their case is brought before a court. In the shadows, high-level police officials embezzle staggering sums of public funds meant to cover basic police operations. Senior police officers also enforce a perverse system of “returns” in which rank-and-file officers are compelled to pay up the chain of command a share of the money they extort from the public. Those charged with police oversight, discipline, and reform have for years failed to take effective action...
